Fixing Error 2739 When Installing Adobe CS3 on Vista 32
April 19th, 2007 | 98 Comments
When installing Adobe CS3 on Vista, you might run into an Internal Error 2739 that prevents your setup from proceeding. Adobe is currently addressing this issue here, and they have working instructions for the 64-bit version of Vista, but it looks like they are still working on updating the instructions for the 32-bit version:

If you are running Vista 32, in this post I will briefly address the missing steps needed between steps 2 and 3 to get CS3 installed. Like the tagline on their support site says, this error is caused by a registration issue with the jscript.dll file.
To register your DLL file, click on your Start orb. Type in the words cmd:

After you typed cmd, you should see the cmd (Command Prompt) icon appear as your search result. Right click on that result and select “Run as Administrator”:

Your command prompt running with administrator privileges will now appear. From this prompt, type the following and press Enter:
regsvr32 jscript.dll
After you type the above and press Enter, you will receive a confirmation dialog box informing you that the registration was successful:

That’s all there is to it. Now, you can go back to run your installer again. This time everything should work, and you’ll be presented with the spiffy new installer – well, new if you only used Macromedia’s products and were more familiar with their less spiffy installers:

If you are running the 64-bit version of Vista, be sure to follow the full instructions from the Adobe Technote link, for the instructions for registering the dll are not the same as what I presented in this post.
Future Flash-related articles on the site will focus primarily on Flash CS3/ActionScript 3.0, and I have a few .NET and Blend specific tutorials in the pipeline also.
Cheers!

Great tip, but wait a sec, wasn’t .NET supposed to do away with this sort of shizizzle!!! So now using the latest version of industry standard software, on the latest Windows OS, presumably with the latest .NET stuff all installed and ready to go, we STILL have to bring up the old cmd prompt and give it the old regsvr32 command. Great. Thanks Microsoft, another broken promise.
May 4th, 2007 at 7:30 am
Installers are tricky thinigs. If the Adobe installer was writen in .NET, then presumably something from .NET could help. The Adobe installer, as far as I can tell, seems to be using HTML/JavaScript for something – hence why registering jscript.dll is necessary for getting it to work.
May 9th, 2007 at 7:49 pm
Thanks Dude. How the heck did you figure that out?
May 9th, 2007 at 9:02 pm
I wish I had a clever/brilliant explanation, but I simply looked at the (then) unfinished Adobe technote’s Step 3 and filled in the missing steps.
Cheers!

Hi Kirupa,
this is nice tutorial, unfortunatly, when i got a msg that you have to register your cs3 copy, before that you can’t use this software, so I uninstall all CS3 from my Vista-32it, BUT now, when I try to install, nothing is working…I can’t install ANY adobe cs3 softwares…CAN you help with this…Thanks a million…!!

Dear Kirupa,
I just bought adobe flash cs3. I am on windows xp.
When I try to install it it says
“The software cannot be installed because JScript is not properly installed. Please repair Jscript and restart installer”.
Would you know what I should do?
Thanks for your great help!
best wishes,
srini
October 20th, 2007 at 7:03 pm
Srini – you’ll need to register the dll responsible for jscript. Unfortunately, I do not have access to a WinXP machine, but I think the steps should be similar. The path and names may be different though.
October 27th, 2007 at 12:54 am
Thanks! Today is the 27th of October and you posted this solution on April the 19th…. i.e. 6 months down the line – the problem is still in existence.
I’m running Vista – everything is patched and up-to-date, yet upon running setup – it just terminated without any errors! – So I just tried your solution and it now works!
Damn Adobe – get your act together!
October 31st, 2007 at 8:51 pm
hey guys thanx very much for your helpful info however ive hit a problem that none of you have yet…… after registering the dll file it did that fine and now i have the setup actually loading instead of disappearing haha, however when the configuring setup bar completes and brings me to the welcome screen for installing cs3 it comes up with an error, “error occured, please look at setup log file for information”. i checked this error log and no helpful information at all!!
could it be because i have dreamweaver cs3 already installed or doesnt that matter?
by the way im running vista 32bit, on a very powerful machine, quad core, 3gig ram etc etc
any helpful information will be great
thnx

Instructions from God how to install adobe on windows vista.
I was having trouble installing adobe on windows vista and after reading and trying endless instructions nothing worked…
Then it hit me….
Jesus said: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.” —Matthew 7:7–8
I prayed to the Lord to forgive my sins and to give me wisdom and He answered my prayer.
Glory to the Lord for being so loving, forgiving and giving us what we seek even when we dont deserve it.
I hope that the following instructions will help you with your work as God helped me.
Step 00. Backup your important files and documents because the installation of vista will delete all
Step 01. Install Dell Media Direct CD wich will create a partition for media files ( I have Dell Pc)
Step 02. Install windows vista choosing to create fresh installation. when prompted delete the previows windows partition then create a new one and do not forget: chose the option to format it.
Step 03. Install all necessary drivers, anti-virus, firewall and update your windows.
Step 04. Turn Off UAC ( user account control ) by going on control panel – click user accounts –
Step 05. Restart your PC on safe mode by pressin F8 when it is starting up.
Step 06. Insert your adobe CD and copy all the files in your favorite folder on your Pc
Step 07. Restart your PC normally – open the folder where you saved adobe – right click on setup.exe and chose option “run as administrator”. You will now be able to use adobe on vista
Praise the Lord for guiding us when it seems impossible. We struggle because we dont ask and when we ask we doubt. Believe and you will receive the blessings of God. We try to solve things ourselves and we dont ask The Almighty that created everything that has ever been created. God knows it all and He is willing to give us wisdom without finding fault. We just have to come near him by prayer and with repentful heart and He hears us and helps us no matter what.

God Bless

My error is labeled: “internal error 2738 not 2739.” The solution you offered seems to be a fix for Adobe CS3. The software I am trying to install is Techsmith Snagit 8.2.0. Does it require a different fix? Do you have a fix for above mentioned error? The error I get when trying using your particular fix is:
“regsvr32jscript.dll is not recognized as an internal or external command”
December 28th, 2008 at 5:33 pm
hey — i use windows xp service pack 3 and couldn’t find instructions to do this ANYWHERE — all for Vista or in some other way not helpful. I used the instructions on this page: http://www.smartcomputing.com/editorial/article.asp?article=articles%2F2008%2Fs1909%2F36s09%2F36s09.asp&articleid=49729&guid=&searchtype=0&WordList=ENCOUNTER&bJumpTo=True
except that on my computer i went to applications, just clicked on Command Prompt, entered the first command, hit Enter, and typed the second command. it worked!
December 28th, 2008 at 7:12 pm
Hi Kirupa,
I successfully followed your instructions with the jscript.dll, and also the vbscript.dll, and got success messages. I tried disabling all startup programs as Adobe reccomends, and even trued in safe mode. The same thing happens- after the begginning of the install, it just quits. I had this installed before (CS3 master suite) and replaced MB and CPU (now quad core).
Any ideas or suggestions?
Thanks.

Hello, I recently upgrade from XP SP2 to XP SP3
sadly now, I can’t install Photoshop CS3, when I double-click on Setup.exe, it show me a small bar/dialog which tells me it’s extracting files, but after that, NOTHING HAPPENS
I left it for an hour, and again, nothing happens. I checked my Task Manager and I found that Setup.exe and Msiexec.exe are running but with completely 0% of system resource.
I tried everything possible, nothing worked for me, I really need Photoshop CS3 for my work.
Please Reply to my email if u have the answer to my problem thank alot
